NO BULL TALLOW

What does "No Bull" mean?

At No Bull Tallow, “No Bull” is more than just a name — it’s a promise.

It means no harsh chemicals, no synthetic fillers, no artificial fragrances, and absolutely no added nonsense. Just purely tallow skincare made from real ingredients you can recognize and trust.

We started this brand for our own family, so every product we make is something we proudly use ourselves — simple, natural, and made with integrity. That’s the No Bull Tallow way.

Are your products handmade?

Yes — every product we offer is handcrafted in small batches to maintain the highest standards of quality, freshness, and consistency. From filtering our own tallow to pouring each jar and balm by hand, we put the same care into every product that we would for our own family — because that’s exactly how No Bull Tallow began.

Do you test on animals?

No way — we’re a proudly cruelty-free brand. None of our products or ingredients are tested on animals.

Our star ingredient, tallow, is a natural by-product of the meat industry. Rather than letting it go to waste, we believe it’s both ethical and respectful to use the whole animal — honouring its sacrifice by making something purposeful, nourishing, and sustainable. It’s just one more way we strive to care for people, animals, and the planet.

Where are your products made?

We're a Canadian beef tallow company. All of our products are proudly handmade in Elora, Ontario. We craft everything in small batches using ingredients sourced from local, sustainable suppliers whenever possible.

In a time when more and more products are outsourced or mass-produced overseas, we believe in keeping things close to home — supporting Canadian farmers, businesses, and communities while ensuring the highest standards of quality and care in everything we make.

What is your tallow rendering process?

We get this question a lot — and for good reason. The way tallow is rendered and filtered has a huge impact on its smell, texture, and overall quality.

At No Bull Tallow, we’ve developed a unique in-house filtering system to create the cleanest, most skin-friendly tallow possible. While we don’t go into the specifics, we can tell you that we chose not to use the wet rendering method. Introducing water into the process can compromise shelf life — especially in products like creams and balms. Traditional dry rendering, on the other hand, can leave you with strong odours and unwanted particles.

Our method involves running our tallow through multiple natural filters, removing residual butcher debris and minimizing odour — all without the use of any chemicals or deodorisers. This gives you a pure, nutrient-rich tallow that’s as close to nature as possible… just cleaner.

What are the main ingredients in your beef tallow products?

All of our products are handcrafted using 100% grass-fed and finished tallow suet sourced from a local regenerative farm in Ontario — it's the foundation of everything we make.

Balms may also include castor oil, beeswax, and essential oils.

Soaps are made with tallow, coconut oil, olive oil, sodium hydroxide (lye), natural colourants, and essential oils.

Lip balms typically include tallow, beeswax, and essential oils.

WHY TALLOW?

What is beef tallow?

Tallow is a rendered form of fat, traditionally sourced from cattle. At No Bull Tallow, we specifically use suet — the dense, nutrient-rich fat found around the kidneys and loins.

Before rendering, we carefully trim away any bits of tissue, muscle, or connective material, leaving only the cleanest fat. The suet is then dry rendered slowly at low heat, a method that preserves its nutrients while avoiding the introduction of moisture that could affect shelf life or product quality.

Once rendered, the result is a hard, shelf-stable fat that’s been used for generations in everything from cooking to candle-making to skincare.

Is tallow skincare just a fad?

Not at all — tallow has been used for centuries across cultures as a natural remedy for dry skin, wounds, and irritation. Long before synthetic moisturizers existed, people used rendered animal fats like tallow to protect and nourish their skin. While it's gaining popularity again, especially among those seeking simpler, more natural skincare, it's far from a new trend — it's a return to time-tested tradition.

Why is tallow used in skincare?

Tallow is used in skincare because its fatty acid profile closely mirrors the natural composition of human sebum — the oil our skin produces to keep itself healthy and protected. It contains a balanced blend of palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid — all of which are naturally found in our skin.

These fatty acids are easily absorbed, non-comedogenic, and help to support the skin’s natural barrier without clogging pores. This makes tallow highly effective at moisturizing and protecting the skin in a way that feels natural — because it is.

Does tallow have a strong scent?

Tallow can have a strong, unpleasant scent — especially if it’s been rendered improperly or has gone rancid. At No Bull Tallow, we’ve developed and manufactured a custom in-house filtering system that removes impurities and contaminants while preserving all the natural benefits of the tallow.

The result is a cleaner, milder product that’s far more pleasant to use on your skin — and allows us to use less essential oil to achieve a balanced scent. Our PURE tallow body butter (which contains no added oils) has a subtle, natural aroma that many describe as mildly nutty or earthy. In our scented products, the tallow scent is virtually undetectable.

Do your tallow products leave a greasy residue?

No — when used correctly, our products absorb quickly and leave your skin feeling soft, smooth, and nourished — not greasy.

Tallow closely mimics the natural oils your skin produces, which allows it to sink in easily without sitting on the surface. Our formulas are carefully balanced with ingredients like castor oil, beeswax, and essential oils to enhance absorption and skin feel.

How to apply: A little goes a long way. Start with a pea-sized amount, warm it between your fingers, and gently massage it into the skin. If you notice a greasy residue afterward, chances are you’re using too much — reduce the amount next time and your skin will thank you.

Our method involves running our tallow through multiple natural filters, removing residual butcher debris and minimizing odour — all without the use of any chemicals or deodorisers. This gives you a pure, nutrient-rich tallow that’s as close to nature as possible… just cleaner.

Is tallow suitable for all skin types?

YES! Tallow is particularly beneficial for dry and mature skin due to its intense moisturizing properties. However, individuals with acne-prone or oily skin will also see benefits, as tallow's non comedogenic and inflammatory nature may help alleviate acne.

Can you use tallow balm on face and body?

Yes, tallow balm can replace both facial moisturizers and body lotions. It can be applied anywhere on the body as needed. However, due to its richness, it's advisable to use a small amount and adjust based on your skin's response.

Is No Bull Tallow safe for children?

Our journey started with our own kids — No Bull Tallow was born out of a desire to create clean, natural skincare we could feel good about using on our daughters. Every product we make is formulated with simple, recognizable ingredients, and we use them daily in our own home.

That said, we always recommend doing a patch test first, especially on young or sensitive skin. While our products are made with natural, skin-nourishing ingredients, everyone’s skin is different. If you have specific concerns, it’s best to speak with a healthcare provider before introducing any new skincare product to your child’s routine.

Why does my tallow feel gritty?

If your tallow feels gritty, it's likely because it was exposed to heat or sunlight, causing it to partially melt. When this happens, the natural fats (saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acids) can separate and then recrystallize unevenly, creating a grainy or gritty texture.

To avoid this, we recommend storing your tallow-based products in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

If your product has become gritty, you can gently melt it down and then re-whip it as it cools. This will restore its smooth, creamy texture.

How should I store my tallow-based skincare products?

Tallow-based products should be stored away from light and extreme temperature changes. While tallow is stable and can last for many months, keeping it in a cool, dark place will help maintain its quality.

Will my tallow products melt during shipping in hot weather?

Our tallow-based products are sensitive to heat and may melt or soften during transit in hot weather. While this won’t affect their quality or effectiveness, whipped products like our body butters may lose their airy texture and become more balm-like. To help them firm up again, place them in a cool area or fridge upon arrival. If you’re concerned, email us at info@nobulltallow.com — we’re happy to explore options like adding ice packs or upgrading to express shipping.
